SDNY GRAND JURY — 2019 EPSTEIN INDICTMENT The Southern District of New York convened a grand jury that returned an indictment against Jeffrey Epstein on sex trafficking charges. PROCEEDINGS: - Grand jury presented with evidence from reopened investigation - Multiple victim witnesses testified - Physical evidence from property searches presented - Documents and records submitted - Resulted in two-count indictment (sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking) SIGNIFICANCE: - Represented the first serious federal prosecution of Epstein - Bypassed the controversial 2007 NPA by bringing charges in a different jurisdiction (SDNY vs. S.D.
