Denise George
Former USVI Attorney General
Background
Denise N. George served as the Attorney General of the U.S. Virgin Islands and filed a landmark civil lawsuit against the estate of Jeffrey Epstein in January 2020. The lawsuit, filed in USVI Superior Court, sought to recover damages from Epstein's estate and alleged that Epstein used his private islands (Little St. James and Great St. James) to traffic and abuse underage girls over a period spanning more than 15 years.
The USVI lawsuit alleged that Epstein used shell companies and the territory's economic development programs to facilitate his criminal activities, and that local officials failed to properly monitor his activities despite warning signs. George was fired by USVI Governor Albert Bryan Jr. shortly after filing an expanded version of the lawsuit that named additional parties, including JPMorgan Chase. The case ultimately led to JPMorgan's $75 million settlement with the USVI and a separate $290 million settlement with Epstein's victims. The USVI litigation produced significant financial disclosures about Epstein's island operations.
