USVI ATTORNEY GENERAL — CIVIL RICO COMPLAINT Filed: January 15, 2020 Case: Government of the USVI v. Estate of Jeffrey Epstein et al. Court: Superior Court of the Virgin Islands Attorney General Denise N. George filed a civil RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) complaint against Epstein's estate and associated entities. KEY ALLEGATIONS: - Epstein used the USVI as a base for a criminal enterprise - Shell companies incorporated in USVI facilitated criminal activity - Young women and girls were trafficked to and within the USVI - Epstein received improper tax benefits while operating criminal enterprise - USVI government suffered financial harm through fraudulent tax arrangements - Criminal activity continued through at least 2018 RELIEF SOUGHT: - Forfeiture of Little St. James and Great St. James islands - Disgorgement of tax benefits improperly obtained - Penalties under RICO provisions - Damages to USVI government OUTCOME: The case was settled in 2023 for approximately $105 million, including the sale of both islands.
