PALM BEACH COUNTY GRAND JURY PRESENTMENT
Date: May 2006
The Palm Beach County Grand Jury returned a single charge of solicitation of prostitution against Jeffrey Epstein.
BACKGROUND:
- Palm Beach Police had investigated Epstein for over a year
- Police identified at least 20 minor victims
- Police Chief Michael Reiter recommended charges of lewd and lascivious molestation
- State Attorney Barry Krischer presented the case to the grand jury
- Police alleged the presentation was inadequate and deliberately minimized
RESULT:
- Single count of solicitation of prostitution (adult charge)
- No charges related to minors
- Police Chief Reiter took the unusual step of writing to the State Attorney expressing disagreement
This outcome led to the FBI taking over the investigation.
