PALM BEACH COUNTY GRAND JURY — 2006 PROCEEDINGS Presenter: Barry Krischer, State Attorney, 15th Judicial Circuit The Palm Beach County Grand Jury was convened to consider charges against Jeffrey Epstein based on the Palm Beach Police Department's investigation. BACKGROUND: - Palm Beach PD had identified approximately 40 minor victims - Police recommended multiple felony charges - Investigation included physical evidence, witness testimony, and documentary evidence - State Attorney Krischer presented the case to the grand jury OUTCOME: - Grand jury returned a single indictment for solicitation of prostitution (misdemeanor) - This was despite evidence supporting multiple felony charges - Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter was outraged - Chief Reiter accused the State Attorney of presenting a weak case to the grand jury - Reiter subsequently referred the case to the FBI CONTROVERSY: - Critics alleged that Krischer deliberately undermined the grand jury presentation - Questions raised about influence of Epstein's legal team on the process - The grand jury outcome was cited as evidence of "the system" protecting Epstein - Led directly to the federal investigation and eventual NPA In 2023, a Florida state grand jury investigated these events and found that Epstein received favorable treatment.
