TIMELINE: - August 2019: French prosecutors open preliminary investigation following Epstein's death - 2019-2020: International coordination between French, U.S., and other authorities - Multiple victims provide testimony to French investigators - December 16, 2020: Brunel arrested at CDG airport attempting to board flight to Senegal INTERNATIONAL DIMENSIONS: The Brunel investigation required coordination across multiple jurisdictions: - France: Primary investigation and prosecution - United States: Source of much of the evidentiary record (court filings, depositions) - Multiple countries: Victim identification across borders where Brunel operated modeling agencies The case illustrated the challenges of investigating international sex trafficking networks, where the alleged conduct spans multiple countries with different legal systems and different statutes of limitations.
