FBI 302 REPORTS — WITNESS AND VICTIM INTERVIEWS
FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION
FBI Form FD-302 is the standardized document used by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to record the results of witness and subject interviews. In the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, multiple FD-302 reports were generated during both the 2006 Palm Beach investigation and the 2019 Southern District of New York investigation. These reports document interviews with victims, witnesses, household employees, pilots, and other individuals with knowledge of Epstein's activities.
FORMAT AND CONTENT:
Each FD-302 report follows a standard format documenting the date, time, and location of the interview; the identity of the interviewing agents; and a narrative summary of the statements made by the interviewee. The reports are prepared from agent notes, typically within five days of the interview, and are maintained as part of the official case file. In the Epstein investigation, FD-302s were prepared for interviews conducted across multiple jurisdictions, including Florida, New York, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and New Mexico.
KEY INTERVIEWS DOCUMENTED:
The FD-302 reports in the Epstein investigation covered a wide range of subjects. Victim interviews documented accounts of sexual abuse and trafficking at Epstein's various properties. Employee interviews with household staff, pilots, and personal assistants detailed the daily operations and visitor patterns at the residences. Witness interviews captured observations from individuals in Epstein's social and professional circles.
ROLE IN PROSECUTIONS:
FD-302 reports from the Epstein investigation were used as evidence in the criminal prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell (USA v. Maxwell, Case No. 20-cr-330, S.D.N.Y.). The reports helped establish timelines, corroborate victim testimony, and document the scope of the trafficking conspiracy. Defense attorneys in the Maxwell trial challenged certain FD-302s on grounds of completeness and accuracy, a common defense strategy regarding these documents.
FOIA AND PUBLIC RELEASE:
Portions of the FD-302 reports have been released through FOIA litigation and court-ordered unsealing. Redacted versions have been published by media organizations and are available through court document repositories.
