DEPOSITION OF DETECTIVE JOSEPH RECAREY Palm Beach Police Department - Lead Investigator Detective Joseph Recarey led the Palm Beach Police Department investigation into Jeffrey Epstein that began in 2005. KEY TESTIMONY TOPICS: - How the investigation was initiated (parent's complaint about stepdaughter) - Identification of approximately 40 minor victims during investigation - Evidence collection at the Palm Beach residence - Trash pulls from Epstein property - Interviews with numerous victims and witnesses - Phone records and scheduling documents - Cooperation (and lack thereof) with federal authorities - Frustrations with the ultimate disposition of the case INVESTIGATION DETAILS: - Investigation began in March 2005 - Police conducted garbage searches ("trash pulls") finding evidence - Identified a pattern of recruitment through local schools - Documented payments to victims and recruiters - Built a case supporting multiple felony charges Detective Recarey expressed frustration that despite the extensive evidence gathered, the federal government entered the NPA rather than pursuing more serious charges.
