MCC SURVEILLANCE CAMERA INVESTIGATION Subject: Camera malfunctions on Special Housing Unit, August 9-10, 2019 FINDINGS: - Surveillance cameras outside Epstein's cell at MCC malfunctioned on the night of his death - Two cameras in the area produced unusable footage - The footage was described as too dark and corrupted - Other cameras in the facility were operational - The specific cameras covering Epstein's tier experienced technical failures INVESTIGATION: - FBI conducted forensic analysis of the camera systems - Technical experts examined hardware and storage media - BOP IT staff were interviewed about maintenance records - Camera system maintenance logs were reviewed DOJ IG FINDINGS: - The camera system at MCC was aging and prone to failures - Maintenance records showed a history of technical problems - The facility had not received upgrades despite known issues - No evidence of intentional tampering was found by investigators - However, the timing of failures raised significant public concern The camera malfunctions became one of the most debated aspects of the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death.
