FRENCH INVESTIGATION:
The Paris apartment became the focal point of the French criminal investigation opened in August 2019. French prosecutors examined allegations that abuse occurred at the apartment, with victims testifying that they were brought to the Avenue Foch address.
The apartment was searched by French authorities as part of their investigation into Epstein and Jean-Luc Brunel.
CONTEXT:
The Paris property was one of six major properties in Epstein's real estate portfolio. Its location in the heart of Paris facilitated Epstein's relationships with European contacts and provided a base for the alleged international dimension of his trafficking operation.

The Epstein Case in 2019
The year 2019 was the most consequential in the Epstein case. In July, Epstein was arrested by the FBI on federal sex trafficking charges in the Southern District of New York. He was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on August 10, 2019, in a death ruled a suicide by the medical examiner but disputed by independent pathologist Dr. Michael Baden.
