EPSTEIN'S BAIL PROPOSAL: - $100 million bond secured by the Manhattan townhouse at 9 East 71st Street - Home detention at the townhouse with GPS monitoring - Private armed security paid for by the defendant - Surrender of all travel documents - Deregistration and grounding of private aircraft COURT'S FINDINGS: Judge Berman denied bail, finding that Epstein posed both a serious flight risk and a danger to the community: FLIGHT RISK: - Substantial wealth and access to private aviation - International connections and property in multiple jurisdictions - Discovery of an expired Austrian passport with Epstein's photo under a different name - A safe containing loose diamonds and large amounts of cash - History of allegedly evading accountability through wealth and influence DANGER TO COMMUNITY: - Serious nature of the charged offenses (sex trafficking of minors) - Evidence of a pattern of predatory conduct spanning years - New evidence discovered during the July 2019 search - Prior lenient sentence appeared not to have deterred further conduct Epstein remained in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center until his death on August 10, 2019.
