Giuffre, by and through her attorneys, brings this Complaint against Defendant Ghislaine Maxwell, and alleges as follows: NATURE OF THE ACTION 1. This is an action for defamation. Ms. Giuffre was sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein and loaned out by Epstein to other powerful men for sexual purposes. When Ms. Giuffre made these facts public, Defendant Maxwell — a close associate of Epstein who recruited and groomed girls and young women for sexual abuse — called Ms. Giuffre a liar. 2. Specifically, through her agent, Maxwell issued a statement denying that she had ever engaged in the alleged conduct and asserting that Ms. Giuffre's "claims are obvious lies." 3. Maxwell's statements were false. Ms. Giuffre's claims were not lies, and Maxwell knew it. PARTIES 4. Plaintiff Virginia L. Giuffre is a citizen of the State of Colorado and the Commonwealth of Australia. 5. Defendant Ghislaine Maxwell is a citizen of the State of New York.
