Re: Referral of Jeffrey Epstein Investigation to Federal Authorities
Dear Special Agent in Charge:
I am writing to formally refer the Palm Beach Police Department's investigation of Jeffrey Edward Epstein for federal review and potential prosecution.
Over the past year, the Palm Beach Police Department has conducted an extensive investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Jeffrey Epstein at his residence at 358 El Brillo Way, Palm Beach, Florida. Our investigation has identified numerous victims, all of whom were minors at the time of the offenses, and has compiled substantial evidence including victim statements, witness interviews, physical evidence from a court-authorized search, and financial records.
Despite the strength of this evidence, I have growing concerns about the handling of this case by the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office. The evidence compiled by our detectives supports multiple felony charges. However, the State Attorney presented the case to the grand jury in a manner that resulted in only a single misdemeanor charge of solicitation of prostitution.
I believe the victims in this case deserve a more thorough prosecution than the one they have received at the county level. The scope and pattern of the conduct described by multiple victims suggests a criminal enterprise that may have operated across state lines and in multiple jurisdictions, making federal prosecution appropriate.
I am making available all investigative files compiled by the Palm Beach Police Department for your review.
Respectfully,
Chief Michael Reiter
Palm Beach Police Department
