UNITED STATES SENATE COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY Date: July 10, 2019 To: The Honorable William P. Barr, Attorney General From: Senate Judiciary Committee Members (Bipartisan) Re: Full Review of Jeffrey Epstein Case Dear Attorney General Barr: We write to request that the Department of Justice conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, including the 2008 non-prosecution agreement negotiated by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. The recent indictment of Jeffrey Epstein by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York on sex trafficking charges raises serious questions about: 1. THE 2008 NON-PROSECUTION AGREEMENT: Why was an extraordinarily lenient plea deal offered to a defendant accused of sexually abusing dozens of minor victims? 2. VICTIM NOTIFICATION: Why were victims not notified of the NPA as required by the Crime Victims' Rights Act, as a federal court has now determined? 3. CO-CONSPIRATOR IMMUNITY: Who were the unnamed "co-conspirators" who received immunity under the NPA, and why was such broad immunity provided? 4. PROSECUTION DECISION-MAKING: What factors influenced the decision to offer the NPA rather than pursue federal charges that could have resulted in life imprisonment? 5. POTENTIAL INFLUENCE: Were there any improper external influences on the prosecution decision, including political considerations or alleged intelligence connections? We request that the Department provide a full accounting to this Committee and the American public. The victims of Jeffrey Epstein's crimes deserve answers. Respectfully, [Bipartisan signatories] Source: Senate Judiciary Committee Available at: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/
