HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE — LETTER TO ATTORNEY GENERAL BARR Date: August 15, 2019 From: House Committee on the Judiciary To: Attorney General William P. Barr Following Jeffrey Epstein's death on August 10, 2019, members of the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Attorney General Barr demanding that the Department of Justice continue investigating and prosecuting Epstein's alleged co-conspirators. KEY DEMANDS: 1. The DOJ must continue investigating Epstein's alleged co-conspirators 2. Epstein's death must not serve as an excuse to close the investigation 3. The broad immunity granted in the 2007 NPA should be reviewed 4. The DOJ should provide a full accounting of the NPA's scope and applicability 5. The circumstances of Epstein's death at MCC must be thoroughly investigated CONTEXT: The letter reflected bipartisan congressional concern that Epstein's death could effectively end the pursuit of justice. Members emphasized that the evidence gathered during the SDNY investigation implicated individuals beyond Epstein himself and that the investigation should continue. AG Barr stated publicly that the investigation would continue and that "any co-conspirators should not rest easy." Source: House Judiciary Committee Available at: https://judiciary.house.gov/
