TRIAL TESTIMONY OF ANNIE FARMER UNITED STATES OF AMERICA v. GHISLAINE MAXWELL Case No. 1:20-cr-00330 (AJN) UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT, SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK December 2021 Annie Farmer testified as one of four accusers at the federal criminal trial of Ghislaine Maxwell in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York before Judge Alison J. Nathan. Farmer, who used her real name rather than a pseudonym, was the only accuser to testify publicly at the trial. Her testimony focused on events that occurred at Jeffrey Epstein's Zorro Ranch property in Stanley, New Mexico, in 1996 when she was sixteen years old. Farmer testified that she first met Jeffrey Epstein through her older sister, Maria Farmer, who had been employed by Epstein after meeting him at an art show. Annie Farmer described being invited to visit Epstein in New York, where Ghislaine Maxwell took her to a movie and shopping. Farmer stated that Epstein gave her gifts and appeared to be grooming her trust. Subsequently, Farmer testified that she was invited to Epstein's Zorro Ranch in New Mexico. At the ranch, she described an incident in which Ghislaine Maxwell entered her bedroom, got into bed with her, and rubbed her body, including her chest, without her consent. This testimony directly supported the charges against Maxwell regarding her role in the grooming and abuse of underage girls. Farmer further testified about an encounter with Jeffrey Epstein at Zorro Ranch in which Epstein asked her to give him a foot massage, which escalated to inappropriate touching. She described feeling trapped at the remote ranch property, which is located on approximately eight thousand acres of land outside of Stanley, New Mexico. The isolation of the property made it difficult for victims to leave or seek help. During her testimony, Farmer described the psychological manipulation employed by both Epstein and Maxwell. She testified that Epstein positioned himself as a benefactor and mentor figure, offering educational and financial support while simultaneously engaging in predatory behavior. Maxwell's role, according to Farmer's testimony, was to normalize physical contact and create an environment in which the abuse could occur. On cross-examination, defense attorneys for Maxwell questioned the timing of Farmer's disclosures and the specifics of her recollections. Farmer maintained her account and described the lasting impact of the abuse on her life. Her testimony was considered significant because she was the only witness at the Maxwell trial who testified about abuse at Zorro Ranch, connecting the conspiracy to Epstein's New Mexico operations beyond his residences in New York and Palm Beach. Annie Farmer's testimony contributed to the jury's verdict on December 29, 2021, in which Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty on five of six federal counts, including sex trafficking of a minor, conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, and conspiracy to transport a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
