TESTIMONY OF ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ — EPSTEIN HOUSEHOLD EMPLOYEE
Subject: Alfredo Rodriguez, former house manager/butler
Property: 358 El Brillo Way, Palm Beach, Florida
Date: Various proceedings, 2009
BACKGROUND:
Alfredo Rodriguez served as Jeffrey Epstein's house manager at his Palm Beach estate. He provided crucial testimony about operations within the household and the existence of a hidden surveillance system.
VIDEO MONITORING SYSTEM:
Rodriguez described a sophisticated video monitoring system installed throughout Epstein's Palm Beach residence:
- Hidden cameras were installed in multiple rooms of the house
- A dedicated monitoring station allowed real-time viewing of camera feeds
- Recording equipment captured video from the cameras
- Cameras were positioned in bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas used by guests
- The system appeared designed to capture compromising footage of visitors
PURPOSE AND IMPLICATIONS:
Rodriguez's testimony suggested that the surveillance system served purposes beyond security, potentially including:
- Recording compromising footage of prominent visitors
- Creating leverage over individuals who engaged in illegal conduct at the property
- Documenting activities for Epstein's personal use
THE BLACK BOOK INCIDENT:
Rodriguez also came into possession of Epstein's "black book" — a contact directory containing names and phone numbers of prominent individuals. Rodriguez attempted to sell the book to attorneys representing Epstein's victims for $50,000. He was subsequently arrested and charged with obstruction of justice for failing to turn the book over to authorities pursuant to a subpoena. Rodriguez pled guilty and served 18 months in federal prison.
Rodriguez died of mesothelioma in December 2014.
