GHISLAINE MAXWELL Case No. S2 20 Cr. 330 (AJN) U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York Filed: March 29, 2021 CHARGES: Count One: Conspiracy to Entice Minors to Travel to Engage in Illegal Sex Acts (18 U.S.C. § 371) Count Two: Enticement of a Minor to Travel to Engage in Illegal Sex Acts (18 U.S.C. § 2422(b)) Count Three: Conspiracy to Transport Minors with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity (18 U.S.C. § 371) Count Four: Transportation of a Minor with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity (18 U.S.C. § 2423(a)) Count Five: Sex Trafficking of a Minor (18 U.S.C. § 1591) Count Six: Sex Trafficking Conspiracy (18 U.S.C. § 1594(c)) Counts Seven & Eight: Perjury (18 U.S.C. § 1623) SUMMARY: The superseding indictment alleged that from approximately 1994 through 2004, Maxwell recruited, groomed, and ultimately sexually abused minor girls, and that she facilitated and participated in Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of minor girls. Maxwell was alleged to have befriended victims, normalized sexual abuse, and participated directly in abuse. The indictment also charged Maxwell with perjury for false testimony given under oath during depositions in 2016, in which she denied knowledge of Epstein's sexual abuse of minors. VERDICT: On December 29, 2021, a federal jury found Maxwell guilty on five of six substantive counts. She was acquitted on Count Two. She was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on June 28, 2022.
